I came across a handy foreclosure map, thanks to my friend, Broker Bryant Tutas of Tutas Towne Realty, Poinciana, Florida. Bryant specializes in short sales, and he also specializes in sharing helpful and useful information with the rest of us…I always find good stuff on his blog.
This foreclosure map (below) was created by RealtyTrac and shows the progression of foreclosures all across the United States from 2007 till now. You can zoom in to find any particular county – including our own Pike and Wayne County right here in the Poconos. Northeast PA is not immune to foreclosures, but we have not experienced as many as other parts of the country. Even so, we have seen a marked increase in foreclosures recently.
In January 2007, Pike County PA saw 1 foreclosure out of every 17,341 homes. In 2012, that number jumped to 1 in 2,950.
Wayne County saw 1 in 10,198 homes in foreclosure for January 2007. By 2012, the number had changed to 1 in 6,331.
I, along with everyone else, will be anxious to see what happens to the Lake Wallenpaupack and northeast PA region in general in 2013.
